Gerry Braun serves as Team Lead for the California Energy Commission (CEC) Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Renewable Energy Technologies Program Area. Mr. Braun’s experience includes six years with the Federal government, ten years in energy equipment and project services industries, thirteen years in the electric utility industry, and five years with venture funded start-ups. In the electric utility industry, Mr. Braun launched and managed solar and energy efficiency RD&D for Southern California Edison Company and advanced generation RD&D for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. As a charter member of the United States Senior Executive Service, he organized the US Solar Thermal Power program, managing large appropriations for research and development and major demonstration projects. Mr. Braun has served as Director, Strategic Business Development for Solarex and later as Director, Thin Film Marketing for BP Solar. Mr. Braun has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, as well as a Nuclear Engineer degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
