Maureen Barnato is a CIEE Principal Contract Analyst. Ms. Barnato has 30 years experience in higher education research management, beginning at Cornell University in the 1970’s. In 1980 she relocated to California and built her career at UC Berkeley. At Berkeley, Ms. Barnato managed a large, complex academic and research unit comprised of the Department of Astronomy, the Radio Astronomy Laboratory, Theoretical Astrophysics Center, and the Center for Integrated Planetary Sciences. Facilities included an 80-acre radio observatory in Shasta County as well as a small optical observatory closer to campus. Ms. Barnato also spent approximately 8 years as Principal Analyst in the UC Berkeley Sponsored Projects Office, negotiating research funding agreements with a variety of sponsors on behalf of the campus investigators. Prime sponsors included DOD, industrial sponsors, State of California, other local governments. These roles “on both sides” of the funding desk help her understand and serve the needs of CIEE’s clients, both the Energy Commission as well as Faculty Principal Investigators. Ms. Barnato has a degree in Business Administration.
